The
Places of Prayer, Spiritual Warfare and Miracles
By Pastor Phil Stern
Destiny Church, St Louis, MO USA
My
text is taken from 2 Kings 2:9-10:
And
it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha,
Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And
Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me
when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it
shall not be so. KJV
God
wants us to have the fortitude of Elisha as we stand for our marriages.
Elisha had three opportunities to faint before he could receive what he
desired when Elijah was caught up in the whirlwind.
First
of all, he had to go to Bethel. Bethel is important because it is the
place of prayer. The place where you make an altar before God. A place
of covenant cutting. Prayer is the foundation for our stands. We must
learn how to pray and how to hear from God concerning our marriages.
Next,
Elisha went to Jericho, the place of spiritual warfare. This is the
place where we tear down the walls of opposition from the enemy. These
walls include bitterness, opposition and unforgiveness that are around
our lives. Jericho is where we learn to walk out the battle plan that we
receive at Bethel. Jericho is the first and most important victory in
our lives.
Third,
Elisha had to go to Jordan, the place of miracles. The place where we
cross to the other side. The place where God makes a way when there
seems to be no way. Our Jordan will never part until we get our feet wet
and cross over.
Some
have been to Bethel and know how to pray. Many have gone on to Jericho
and have received our battle plans. And now we are almost to Jordan, the
place of miracles.
Bethel,
Jericho and Jordan had to be established in Elijah’s life before he
could receive the double anointing. It was a “hard thing.” Marriage
healing is not impossible but it is a hard thing to stand for.
Elijah
said, “If you see me taken,
it shall be so.” We must not lose our vision. We must keep our
eyes on God and what He has shown us about our marriage covenant.
And
then it happened! Elisha kept his eyes on Elijah and received the
mantle.
Elijah
represents Covenant Keepers and Elisha represents each of us.
The
double anointing is the spirit of Covenant Keepers spreading across our
land and around the world by each of us dogging the footsteps of
covenant and sharing it with others.
