ENJOYING THE JOURNEY, Part 2
LORD, CHANGE ME IN THE WAIT
As you grow in faith and begin to become more Christ like, you will be walking in His peace and love…exactly what our beloved spouses are searching for in the world. The Bible says that the things of this world do not satisfy. Philippians 4:4-8 says, “Rejoice and again I say rejoice. In everything through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, make your request unto Me and the peace that passes all understanding will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus.” Choose to think on those things that are just and pure and of a good report. If there be any virtue, any life-giving substance, think on those things. Resist the temptation to think about scenarios that result in fear! In the first chapter of Joshua, God kept telling Joshua to fear not. Fear is the opposite of faith! God’s answer to this fear is in Joshua 1:8, “This book of the law shall not depart out your mouth but you shall meditate on it day and night and do according to all that is written in it. Then you shall make your way prosperous and you shall have good success.” That is what will get you into the Promised Land – the place where your spouse will begin to see the changes in you! Glory to God!
FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH
Once you have surrendered your beloved to God for salvation, you can “go to the mattress,” a term used by the mafia when they are going to war. You can put on the full armor of God and fight the good fight of faith in the prayer closet. After all, according to Ephesians 6:12, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Your spouse is not your enemy. In 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (TLB) Paul says, “It is true that I am an ordinary, weak human being, but I don’t use human plans and methods to win my battles. I use God’s mighty weapons, not those made by men, to knock down the devil’s strongholds. These weapons can break down every proud argument against God and every wall that can be built to keep men from finding him. With these weapons I can capture rebels and bring them back to God and change them into men whose hearts’ desire is obedience to Christ. I will use these weapons against every rebel who remains after I have first used them on you yourselves and you surrender to Christ. There is no question that when you use God’s weapons, it brings victory.
Here are some resources to use to fight the enemy:

Satan knows that if you go to war with the mighty Word of God, he is finished. When Satan realizes that you have figured out who your real enemy is and that you are fighting the fight of faith, he often uses “white noise” to try to stop you. What is white noise? It’s what easily distracts you from continual fellowship with the Father. How does Satan distract you from fighting the good fight of faith in the prayer closet? Is it the TV? Facebook? Romance novels? Busyness? Discouragement that comes when you listen to worldly news? Don’t give in to any of the enemy’s tactics! Remember, If God changed chief of sinners, Saul, into godly Paul, there is nothing too hard for Him, including your spouse! With God ALL things are possible!
GET GOD’S VISION
Ask God to give you a vision as to how He sees your covenant spouse. Try God’s phone number, Jeremiah 33:3, “Call on Me and I will tell you great and mighty things, the hidden things that you do not know.”
Here is what I love to preach all the time: enjoy the journey! The joy of the Lord is your strength! If Satan can steal your joy he can get all your strength and all your goods. There is a good chance that if your joy is stolen, you will become a crabby person who begins to speak the problem all over again. Remember, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18:21. Speak God’s promises continually!
There was a very depressed fellow that would call me on the phone. He was so depressed because his wife left him that he actually stuck a knife in his own throat. The doctors said they had never met a man so depressed that he could do such harm to himself. They pronounced him doomed. When he called me, I would say, “Don’t talk!” I didn’t want him speaking death over his situation. I would spend an hour explaining to him how much God loved him. I knew I had to be tough because he was so desperate. When we hung up, I thought that he would probably never call again. And yet, he would call several days later and listen and listen and listen. This went on for several months. Finally, one day I realized that he had figured it out. By God’s grace he had been set free! He got filled with the joy of the Lord and began blessing his three children. He shared the love of the Lord wherever he went. He wrote love songs to the Lord and ministered in hospitals and nursing homes. He became the happiest man I have ever met.
Put on the garment of praise daily. You will never have this day, this week, and this month again. You only have one life to live here on planet earth. When you come to the end of your life, you don’t want to live in regret that you wasted precious years of your life. When the accuser of the brethren whispers lies into your ears, cast those thoughts down! Walk in the destiny and purpose the Lord has given to you. Make it your mission to have a merry heart that becomes like a medicine to a hurting world. Look for ways to encourage and make people laugh. Be a little silly. Have a little fun. Share the love of the Lord. Bless others. Concentrate on Jesus and worship Him…all choices that result in joy in YOUR life!
