God Has This Marriage

My husband, Howard, and I had been married 28 years when he told me he wanted a divorce. We were divorced for 8 years and he even married another woman before he came home and we renewed our vows. The Lord gave us 7 precious years together before he went to heaven in 2005.

When I was served with the divorce papers I was upset and emotional, to say the least, but God spoke to me and said, ”Are you going to let the devil have this marriage or are you going to trust Me, put this under your feet, and put it in My hands?”

I threw the divorce papers on the floor, stomped all over them, and told Satan, “God has this marriage, you don’t.” God dealt with all the anger, self-pity and emotions within me and I was healed and set free by the love and power of the Holy Spirit.

I was going through some of my journaling books and it brought back memories of my stand and how God was leading and guiding during those difficult days. His words and promises were always uplifting and His love ministered to my hurting heart and all that goes with rejection. I felt led to share some of the things God spoke to my heart, things I wrote down. I hope they encourage you.

“My child, you have trusted me in a few things and I have not failed you. Trust Me now for everything and see if I will not do for you immeasurably more than you could ever have asked, thought, or dreamed, (Ephesians 3:20) not according to your power, your faith or ability but according to my mighty power and my power within you. You don’t find it difficult to trust me with the management of the universe, do you? Could your situation be so complex that you need to be anxious about my management of your marriage?”

I responded, “Oh, Lord, I serve a living God who cares. I will trust You for Your leading and guidance so I surrender this whole problem – my husband, our marriage, all – over to You.”

“Now get all those negative thoughts and attitudes out of your mind. Don’t let them linger, (2 Corinthians 10:4-5) take your stand on the power and authority and trustworthiness of Me – your God – and see how quickly all the doubts and fears will vanish. They are the culprits that bring all the other emotions such as distress, discouragement, depression, fear, self-pity and loneliness until that dark cloud just hovers over you and consumes you. I don’t want that for you and you don’t need it. If you will keep your eyes focused on Me, all these will vanish as a steadfast determination comes to believe in My power.

Trust Me in the dark, my child, when you don’t see or hear the encouragement you may want from your spouse.

Trust Me always in these dark times. This may require some work and effort at first, but sooner or later it will just become natural and habitual.

Don’t be concerned about how much faith you have or don’t have for I have dealt to every man a measure of faith (Romans 12:3) and that faith is in you. Just let it take over your thoughts and it will control your actions.

You have spoken to your mountain, now praise Me that it is done, and keep telling yourself, ‘I can trust my God and His Word.’

I love you, so let that faith confirm all My promises to you. I will see you through and I will come through for you!

Look up and keep looking up! Resist the devil and he will flee! Keep My promises in view always! You are Mine and your problems are Mine! I will perfect that which concerns you!”

God is no respecter of persons; what He did for me He will do for all who want His will.
